What is a Butterfly valve?

 A butterfly valve is a quarter turn valve used to regulate the flow of fluids. They consist of a circular disc that is attached to a spinning shaft, located at the valve body's center; when the valve is open, the disc aligns with the flow, enabling fluid to pass through easily, and when the disc is shut, it is at a right angle to the direction of the flow, effectively block the flow.

How does a Butterfly Valve work?

A butterfly valve has a circular disc that is mounted on a shaft, positioned at the center of the valve body, the valve is either operated by handwheel or by an actuator, when the valve is turned using the actuator the shaft rotates the disc, provide a 90 degree rotation to open and close the valve. When the valve is fully open  the disc aligns with the flow of the fluid allowing it to pass through with minimal resistance and low pressure drop, and when the valve is closed the disc is at a right angle to the flow effectively blocking it and preventing any fluid from passing.

Components of butterfly valve:
