Understanding Globe Valves:
Globe valves are essential mechanical devices utilized in plumbing, industrial, and fluid control systems. They are typically designed for controlling and managing fluid flow regarding both liquids and gases. The spherical or globe-like shape of the valve is somewhat unique because it distinguishes them from gate valves and ball valves, for example. The main parts of a Globe Valve consist of an actuating disc or plug, a static or stationary ring or seat, and a threaded stem connected to a handwheel or actuator.
Operational Mechanism:
Valve operation is carried out by rotating the handwheel or actuator. This rotation lifts or lowers the disc/actuating element housed in the valve body. By this action, fluid flow can be controlled with accuracy.
This flow motion either opens a passage for fluid flow or closes it, depending on the direction of the movement.
Globe Valve Types:
Pressure Seal Globe Valve: These valves are especially for high-pressure conditions. They provide a self-sealing bonnet to ensure the valve has extra safety and reliability in any condition.
Bellow Seal Globe Valve: With a bellows seal, these valves provide excellent leak protection and are ideal for tight shut-off applications.
The forged steel globe valve is strong and versatile, designed to operate in demanding industrial environments.
Y type globe valve: Through the Y-type body structure, valves are designed to reduce pressure drop and turbulence for efficient flow control.
Angle type globe valve: Through the angled body structure, these valves are suitable for tight spaces and offer convenient installation options.
Cast Iron Globe Valve: These are cast iron valves used for various industrial applications; including plumbing, water distribution system, and other applications, which are strong and reliable.
Can Globe Valves Be Used for Isolation?
Globe valves are available for isolation purposes, but most often they are used for flow throttling. The design of a globe valve consists of a disc that travels up and down to guide the flow through the valve. When it is totally closed, this disc forms a tight seal against a valve seat to stop the fluid flow.
However, compared to globe valves, gate valves are normally more preferred when isolation is needed because of their simpler design and lower pressure drop. Globe valves might not offer shut-off efficiency as high as other types. They would be chosen for isolation whenever flow control was also needed; hence, they would be used in applications where throttling and isolation have to be made.
Though globe valves can be applied in isolation, take into account your application's specific needs because whether or not the features of a globe valve coincide with your isolation needs.
Advantages
The Globe Valves we produce come with several advantages which include; accurate flow control, efficient shut-off for proper isolation, versatile, durable, reliable in performance, not difficult to repair, suitable for pressure regulation, available in a variety of materials.
Gate Valve Vs. Globe Valve
Design: Gate valves have a straightforward, but very robust design, with gates or wedge-shaped disks moving perpendicular to fluid flow. Globe valves, on the other hand, have a more complex design, whereby there is a disk or plug moving along a centerline in a valve body to regulate flow.
Operation: Gate valves work on the principle of lifting or lowering the gate by a stem, that is attached to an actuator to provide full obstruction or full flow. Globe valves work by raising the disk, upwards or downwards through a stem to make a seat that controls flow.
Application: Main applications of gate valves are on/off service; gate valves present extremely low resistance when fully open, but they cause significant loss in pressure when closed. Globe valves are used in throttling application or isolation applications wherein globe valves support precise flow control but with higher resistance compared to the gate valves.
Flow Path: Gate valves are best suited for applications where a straight-through flow path with minimal pressure drop is called for. Globe valves are used in applications where accurate flow control must be exerted, even at the expense of added pressure drop.
Pressure Drop: Gate valves tend to have a lower pressure drop when fully open, such that they are preferred for high-flow applications. Globe valves cause a pressure drop - in fact, much greater pressure drop - and therefore are better suited to applications where flow control is used-precisely
Applications: Globe valves have broad applications in pipelines for isolation and on-off operation. Globe valves are widely used in industries where close regulation of flow is desired; these include petrochemical, power generation, and water treatment plants.
